Unearthed

What is Unearthed?

Unearthed offers a renewed appreciation for nature and its surprising colors and textures. A counterpoint to all the slick perfection and distraction of our computers and gadgets is that we respond to the “perfection of imperfection (wabi sabi)” found in the natural world.

The Story:
With two children under the age of 5, Maya craves a calm, serene environment for her eco-friendly home to maintain her composure despite a demanding schedule. In addition to being an artist, Maya teaches a nature drawing course at her local community education center as well as leading a vinyasa yoga session a few times a week.

Because she is surrounded by colors at her studio every day, Maya prefers to maintain a monochromatic color palette at home, focusing instead on sheen and texture. She’s not into labels or flashy jewelry but she will spend the extra money when it enhances her lifestyle, like saving up for her Toyota Prius. Although she walks or bikes as much as she can, she does enjoy driving to nearby hiking trails or taking her kids to the beach on the weekends, collecting treasures that wash up on the shore.

Maya’s personal style is relaxed and natural but she likes to enhance her wardrobe with beautiful accent items – much like her home. The little details are the difference, making her home unique and a personal statement about who she is.

Concerned for her children’s wellness, Maya is very particular about the materials that come into her home, preferring natural surfaces whenever possible.
In addition, she always looks for recycled content or repurposed items that have a sense of history and enjoys shopping at West Elm and Viva Terra.

Beyond the physical elements within her home, Maya also pays special attention to the energy she’s creating, referring to the ancient arts of Vastu and Feng Shui to create a home that is harmonious with nature.

More Inspiration:

We are increasingly seeing the influences of nature, including minerals, mica and quartz appearing on everything from fashion to cosmetics to automotive finishes.The box office hit-Avatar stirred viewers’ senses and transported them to a Utopian society which honored nature. As we celebrate the environment, we bring elements of motion, texture and ethereal qualities into our environments. While Unearthed has cross-generational appeal, its primary target audience is Gen Now and Gen X.
